This document explains how to geocode and label point data in NT Visualiser

Geocoding and Labelling using Longitude (X) and Latitude (Y) values


NT Visualiser is available across NTG and is an application which marries the functionality and imagery found in Google Earth with spatial information and imagery managed and owned by NTG. Prior to Geocoding, you must gather the data required that is required. The coordinates must be in decimal degrees. For the purpose of demonstration, a text file called "LGAs with XY.txt" (see NT Visualiser - Geocoding example file) was created and will be used in to demonstrate how to geocode using X and Y values.

Steps


The Data Import Wizard appears (Figure 1)

As we are opening a text file, the following parameters need to be se

For Field Type - Tick "Delimited"
For Delimited - Tick "Treat consecutive delimiters as one"
For Delimited - Tick "Tab"

The Select Latitude/Longitude Field Window appears(Figure 2)

In this window,

Change the Latitude field = Y
Change the Longitude field = X

X and Y being the columns in the text file that contain the coordinate values

The Specify Field Types (optional) window appears ( Figure 3). All values can remain as is. Click Back

The Style Template Settings

Window (Figure 5) appears next. Here, you can configure the colour and allocate a desired icon for placemarkers


If you would like labelling, Set the value of "Set name field" to NAME  (or the column which has the information you wish to be labelled). In "LGA with XY.txt", the column NAME has the name of the Local Government Area

Review the Color and Icon tabs and configure these settings as desired. An Icon represents a placemarker. For point data ( like "LGA with XY.txt), each point will be represented by a placemarker, so an appropriate icon will need to be selected


Once saved, NT Visualiser will refresh and

 Figure 6 shows the result of importing "LGA with XY.txt" into NT Visualiser. The Local Government Areas (polygons) have also been imported and ordered underneath the point data. The results give is the Local Area Polygons with a placemarker and label
