The Northern Territory Government controls external access to the ILIS system using the SSL Protocol. The following guide has been written assist end users with SSL certificate installation.

SSL Certificate Guide

What is an SSL Certificate?

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol that provides secure communications on the Internet for such things as web browsing and other data transfers.  ILIS uses the SSL protocol to ensure secure communications can be established between the ILIS Web Server and client machines (i.e. your computer).

A "certificate" is small file that is sent to ILIS clients. This file contains important information such as client name and expiry dates. The ILIS Server requests this information from the file located client machine, and if the server accepts the client file as valid,  an encrypted connection is established.

How do I get an SSL Certificate?

An SSL Certificate file is created by ILIS Support after your ILIS Application has been approved. This file is then emailed directly to clients for installation.

In most cases, an ILIS SSL Certificate will expire 12 months from date of creation (usually the day you receive your welcome email.).  ILIS Support will create a new certificate file prior to your current file expiry, and email the new file to the registered email address on your ILIS account.

The certificate issuer is the Northern Territory Government.

What is my Password for SSL Certificate Installation?

To install your certificate, you will require a password. This password is independent of your ILIS password.

Your password should be provided to you on the same email that contained the certificate. Please contact ILIS Support if you require assistance with your SSL Certificate password.
