1) Select add source dataset from the source data menu on the menu bar fme_tute1Image RemovedImage Added.


2) Choose Oracle 10g/9i/8i Spatial (object) for the data format. This can be done by clicking on the browse for a source format button highlighted with a red rectangle shown in the diagram below.

After clicking on the browse for a source format button type in oracle in the search box found in the bottom left hand corner of the format gallery window. Choose Oracle 10g/9i/8i Spatial (object) highlighted in blue as shown in the diagram below.

3) After the format has been selected the format should now appear in the format input box shown below. Now click on the settings button in the add source dataset window.

4) The oracle spatial input settings window should pop up after clicking on the settings button in the previous step. In the database connection section of the window enter the User ID, Password and Service information for the database you wish to connect to. For this tutorial I will use sdb1prod as the source database. After entering the information, click on the browse for table list button shown in the below diagram highlighted with the red rectangle.

5) If you have connected to the database properly then a list of the tables stored within that database should be displayed. To choose which table you wish to have available, you must check the check box next to the table name. After you have selected the tables you want, press the O.K. button in the Oracle Spatial List window and O.K. and again in the add source dataset window.

6) Choose your coordinate system by clicking on the browse for a coordinate system button shown below.

7) The coordinate system gallery should now appear. In the contain input box, type in a keyword of the coordinate system you wish to find. This should filter out any formats that doesn't contain the keyword entered. After the formats have been filtered, choose the format you want by clicking on it. Now click the O.K button.

8) You should now have all the information that you need for the add source dataset window. Press O.K. button if all the information you have entered is O.K. If the translation was O.K., you should see the message mapping file generation successful near the end of the translation log along with the source dataset appearing in the main window within FME Workbench.

9) To view the source dataset click on the insert visualiser button and make a connection between the source dataset and the visualiser. Now hit the run button highlighted with a red rectangle in the image below to view your source dataset.

10) A FME Visualiser window should now pop up displaying your source dataset.
